Workshop 1 | Data Manipulation for Non-Programmers

9:00AM-10:45AM, Friday September 23, 2011
Instructor: Dianne Dietrich, Cornell University
Location: Ullyot (combined) room

We all have a ton of data, and in a lot of cases, we don’t have the programming “power tools” to manage it quickly and effectively. Programming doesn’t have to be hard, and it isn’t just for [insert stereotype here]. Anyone can learn! This workshop will teach some basic scripting, but will also discuss how to use tools we all already have (Excel, common database programs, Yahoo! pipes, Google Refine, etc.) to make your data manageable.

Have you registered to attend THATCamp Philly BootCamp? Are there particular kinds of data management tools or tasks that especially strike your interest that you’d like to learn about? Please let Dianne know by posting a comment below.

  1. What are alternatives to websites (costly to build and maintain, esp for those without programming skills)?
